International FEMFAT User Meeting 2015 in Steyr

A very gratifying anniversary (25 years of FEMFAT) formed the backdrop for what was also already the tenth international FEMFAT User Meeting. It took place according to the motto “Light Construction and New Materials” from June 10 - 12, 2015 as usual in Steyr at the traditional event venue, “Museum Arbeitswelt”.

It was our pleasure on this occasion to welcome more than 120 participants from all over the world.

The program comprised a total of 17 highly interesting talks. The kickoff was a plenary talk by Prof. G. Pinter, who lectured on light construction using fiber-reinforced plastics. The first day was concluded by Prof. Mattheck who provided a fascinating introduction to mental thinking tools borrowed from nature. The outstanding Gasthof Mayr catering team attended to our physical wellbeing and provided for a notable finish to the first day.

Participants eagerly took in further talks on the topic of light construction on the second morning of the event before going out to the track: the 25th anniversary celebration was subsequently simply moved to the test course at short notice. The festivities were suited to the occasion. Many participants took advantage of the opportunity to accompany one of our test drivers for a round on the test course.

The winners of the Lecturer’s Challenge were also honored on this occasion, and the challenge cup for the best lecture went to BMW Motors Steyr: Mr. Reichl and Mr. Wabro were awarded for their talk „Integration of the manufacturing process in the fatigue analysis of engine components”.

The workshops on day three enjoyed enthusiastic attention: The Newcomer Workshop offering a broad overview of the individual modules as well as the Advanced Workshops with in-depth insights into FEMFAT spectral, ELASTOLOADS, the use of templates and WELD were all very well received.

We are already looking forward to the next User Meeting in 2017 for which we have set ourselves the goal of once again topping the thoroughly positive feedback already received from participants.
