In 2003, right before the 3rd International FEMFAT Usermeeting we decided to honor the best lecturer of the event by handing over a trophy. This stays with the winner for 2 years before it will be brought back to the Usermeeting – ready to honor the next great speaker.
A beautiful piece of maple was chosen for it to represent the lightweight design and the sustainability of the products engineered with FEMFAT. Its natural grown grain became the central element of the final challenge cup.
One of our ECS employees, Franz Berger, is also a craftsman – a carver. He designed the "Best Lecture Award". As he works in the fatigue lab he knows about the typical problems a fatigue analysis with FEMFAT has to deal with. His design shows notches in various shapes, even crack initiation. Also the theory from the notchfactor database in FEMFAT weld is represented with the key-hole-notch and the welding seam at the base.
Since then also organizers of local Usermeetings in India and Japan have decided to honor their best lecturers.
